Summary
Why do we suffer from an invisible hierarchy on a plain that is supposed to be equally open to all? While everyone starts from the same starting line and competes under the same rules, this society harbors an untold secret. Beneath the shining banner of "equality," a quieter, more sophisticated selection is actually taking place. This article unravels the subtle incongruities lurking in our daily lives and quietly exposes the true nature of the beautiful stage set created by modern society.

A shining dance hall to which everyone is invited
Once upon a time, there was a huge dance hall. A large sign at the entrance read, "Free admission, everyone welcome." Inside, glittering lights, beautiful music, and a sumptuous menu awaited. The guide smiled and announced, "Please join us." "Here, everyone is the star. If you dance freely and show off your charm, you will receive praise commensurate with your performance."
People entered the hall with joy. Social status, past careers, and natural wealth were irrelevant. They were told that this was a place where only the beauty of their steps in this moment was valued. The people began to dance enthusiastically. Undisturbed by anyone, undeterred by orders, they beat out the rhythm with their own feet. Believing this to be the "peaceful freedom" they had longed for, they were sure. However, as time passed, a sigh began to ring from a corner of the hall.
Different footsteps in the same shoes
As the frenzy died down, someone began to notice a strange phenomenon. Though they were dancing to the same music on the same floor, there was one group that just couldn't keep up. Their steps were light and effortless, and they never ran out of breath. Meanwhile, some, despite working up a sweat, stumbled and fell.
The guide said, "You just haven't practiced enough. Move your body more efficiently, more logically. Everyone has an equal chance."
Those who fall feel ashamed of their own failure and push themselves even harder. But there's a truth they don't realize. The hall floor, while seemingly flat, actually has a subtle, invisible slope. Gravity is on your side in some places, and the wind is against you in others. Furthermore, while everyone is given the same size dance shoes, each person's foot is unique.
Everyone has the equal right to wear the same shoes, but no one takes responsibility for whether those shoes fit their feet or the slope of the floor. In fact, complaining has come to be seen as an affront to the "beautiful rules."
Fair evaluation = concealing invisible superiority + emphasizing personal responsibility
The silent glass partition closes
As the night progresses, an invisible glass wall begins to rise in the dance hall. It's so transparent you don't even notice it until you collide. Before you know it, skilled dancers have moved to the other side of the wall, to the clearer, more luxurious floor.
In the past, people used force to subjugate others. Swords were swung and chains were used. But today's halls are different. Violence is strictly prohibited. Anyone who hits another is immediately expelled. This "peace" is actually the cruellest of devices. In a world where physical conflict has disappeared, the competition has shifted to invisible, abstract forces like "information processing speed" and "sensitivity to subtleties."
The former savage predators now behave as "refined gentlemen." They no longer need to use force to take. They simply spread a net of cleverly designed rules and quietly glean the fruit that falls from its grasp. The weak may not be physically harmed, but they are quietly suffocated—mentally and structurally—by the declaration of their own incompetence. This is a new era of survival of the fittest, without showing its fangs.
The curtains fall, and what remains remains.
The dance hall is bustling today as well. The lights are bright, the music is playing relentlessly, and everyone keeps stepping, hoping that one day they too will make it to the other dance floor.
But the ending of this story is as quiet and merciless as a starless night sky. In the end, what remains in the hall is a "perfect hierarchy." This hierarchy is not enforced through violence, but rather the result of a contract that the losers agreed to and signed of their own volition.
One man, exhausted, sat on the floor and looked up at the ceiling. There were cameras recording, quantifying, and scoring his every move. He was left speechless, knowing that the reason for his defeat was proven by thousands of data points. Back when violence ruled, he could have sworn revenge in his heart. But now, he had no choice but to accept his defeat as a "just consequence."
"Thank you for your hard work," said the guide as he approached and handed him a bill. It was a heavy bill for the maintenance fees of the dance hall, which he had been free to enter. The man accepted the bill with trembling hands and realized that the price of his freedom was to give up his very existence. Outside the window, new guests were lining up at the entrance, dreaming of equality.
